Summer is winding down and fall is just around the corner. We’ve been daydreaming of fall hikes, beer festivals and all things pumpkin. Whether you’re on the hunt for some fall colors or in need of some spooky fun, we’ve got the inside scoop on the top four things to do in Asheville this season.
Experience the Fall Colors
Asheville leaf season is just around the corner! Tourists and locals alike head to the Blue Ridge Parkway for the best in fall foliage. With plenty of scenic overlooks along the route, leaf peepers can enjoy the reds, oranges, and yellows from the comfort of their own car. Or, for a little mountain air, hop on one of the Parkway’s many trails.
A quick word of advice: In early fall, you’ll likely have to head to higher elevations above 5,000 feet for peak fall colors. In mid–fall, elevations between 3,000 and 4,000 feet will be your best bet. And in late fall, you can stick to lower elevation under 2,000 feet for some fall foliage.
Don’t Forget to Pack: Inspired by our 1980’s daypack, our Belay Bag is spacious, durable, and highly versatile. Its shoulder straps can be adjusted for size and style (or remove one and carry the bag as a slingpack). Its hip and sternum straps can be removed with the ease of a snap
Fly Through the Trees
Experience the treetops from a different perspective with Navitat’s epic ziplining adventures. Navitat’s Treetop Tour takes adventurers on “a breathtaking 1,250-foot long flight across Moody Cove featuring gorgeous mountain views.” Meanwhile, at 3,600 feet long, their Mountaintop Tour takes things up a notch, with speeds up to 65 mph.
Don’t Forget to Pack: Though no bags are allowed on these adrenaline-pumping tours, that doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a celebratory wine afterward. Our Crush is designed to carry your wine bottles in stye. With interchangeable chilly bags included, your beverages will stay cool and secure throughout the day
Try the Fall Flavors
With more breweries per capita than any other city in the U.S., Asheville is home to plenty of signature fall brews. Check out the fall offerings at local favorites like Wicked Weed, Sierra Nevada, and Highland Brewing. For a sampling of all the seasonal tastes, mark the calendar for downtown Asheville’s Oktoberfest.
Don’t Forget to Pack: Grabbing a six pack before hitting the trail or heading for the lake? Our Double Take is designed to carry your cold beverages with ease (no more cumbersome coolers!) Plus, the closure doubles as a beer opener!
Get Your Spook On
What’s fall without a little Halloween fun? Add some history to your hauntings with the Haunted Asheville walking tour. Experience the spooky side of Asheville with a local guide. “Enjoy hair-raising tales and dark history”, before ending in the Asheville Mystery Museum in the basement of the Asheville Masonic Temple.
Don’t Forget to Pack: Carry all your essentials with our stylish and sleek Shift Tote. Removable leather handles and all-metal hardware add a touch of class to this time-honored design. Meanwhile, multiple closure points keep your items safe and secure while out on the town. Though we can’t promise it’s ghost-proof.
